Does Classroom Design Matter?

What's on my mind? The million dollar question: How do kids learn better?  To answer this burning question, we often look at the quality of the curriculum used, the expertise and instructional approach of the teachers, the complexity of the tasks and activities.

What about the learning environment itself that provides the setting in which learning takes place? Research confirms the strong emotional connection humans have to buildings and places. Optimal school design considers 3 paramaters that greatly affect students' reactions to their environment: Complexity, Color, and Texture.

Complexity of design with order and purpose stimulates the young mind and allows for many moments of discovery throughtout the day. Color intensifies certain emotional reactions keeping the mind active or helping it focus on tasks. Psychologists have linked the use of color with brain development, increased attention span and accelerated learning. Texture with the interplay of hard and soft surfaces in a classroom is stimulating while allowing for creative play and learning opportunities.

So, what classroom do you think your studend will excell in? The traditional room full of neatly arranged rows of desks facing the teacher's desk and blackboard? Or, the one posted here?

Moving along...

We had a very successful parent information meeting last Monday and are beginning to receive registrations.  The Huntington Beach location did not work out, BUT we have a new location that is looking very promising, and we are just waiting on final approval!  This new location is off the 22 Freeway at Glassel in Orange. We are still looking for a couple of teachers for the lower grades.

Please keep us in prayer that all we need will be fulfilled!
